Today I caught up with Brett Clark, who is the current head coach of the Newton Rebels college summer baseball team. Brett grew up in Temecula, California, and the game of baseball brought him to Kansas as he now resides just south of Wichita. I asked Brett some questions to learn more about him.
Q1.) Where did you go to college and what sport did you play? What position were you? Brett started his college baseball career off at Palomar College, and then transferred to Gateway CC. From there he finished off his college career at Friends University, where he played pitcher and first base. Brett appeared in 24 games on the mound at Friends, where he held an 11-10 record with 166.0 innings pitched. Brett was named to the KCAC All-Conference team during the 2016 season, he also threw the second no-hitter in school history during his time at Friends.
Q2.) What did you major in and what career do you have now? Is this your dream position? Brett majored in criminal justice, where he obtained his degree from Friends University. He currently works as a service writer at a Chevy dealership, as well as head coach of the Newton Rebels. Brett’s dream job is to be a baseball coach, so he is living his dream. He hopes that the continued success of the Rebels will lead him to a head coaching position at a college.
Q3.) How do you stay active after not being a college athlete anymore? Brett stays active by constantly working, and being out on the diamond coaching baseball. He also enjoys playing golf, and hanging out with his family. He also is an avid bowler, as he has bowled a few perfect games in his life!
Q4.) What are your hobbies? Brett enjoys playing golf, slow pitch softball, and bowling. He also enjoys going fishing and playing with his 2 boys.
Q5.) If you could have one more college season, would you change your work ethic or keep it the same? Brett said he wouldn’t change his work ethic on the field, but off the field he would work harder at gaining strength in the weight room. His work ethic when it came to his baseball skills is something he took pride in.
At this time Brett is preparing to coach summer baseball, and he is anxiously waiting for his players to arrive. I would like to thank Brett for taking time out of his busy schedule to chat with me.
